What is large format printing?
Large format printing refers to print materials that are too large to be printed on the most readily available sizes of commercial printers. The awesome thing about Rainier Display is that our capabilities surpass printing even large items such as a banner or wallcovering. Large format printing, also known as wide format, includes any printed medium between 18” and 100” wide. Prints that are more than 100” wide use the process known as grand format printing. This gives us resources to print billboards, building wraps, trade show booths, and more. Size is never a limitation with our advanced printing capabilities!
Uses for large and grand format printing?

Seattle Mariners Seat Fleet – Large Format Printing
A recent example of a project that we completed in the large format printing scale, was our partnership with the Seattle Mariners. The Mariners were searching for a way to have their fans be present in the stands during a pandemic, so we helped provide them with a solution. Our team successfully developed the website allowing fans to order their custom cutouts, also known as “Mariners Seat Fleet”, and began printing, cutting, and preparing them for T-Mobile Park. The prints were run on our __ft wide printer to fit six cutouts per sheet and save on material. This is a perfect example of how using large format printers and cutters can cut down on production cost and time. Each cut out is __ by __ inches and will fit perfectly in the seats at T-Mobile Park. We currently have over 11,000 fans (and counting) that have uploaded their images to be a part of the Mariners Seat Fleet.
Shepard Fairey Banner Install – Grand Format Printing
What is an example of grand format printing? Well, think HUGE! Like eight stories tall huge! The banner is 36ft wide x 112ft tall, weighs just over 300lbs, and took the team at Rainier just three days to produce in our state-of-the-art 144,000 sq. ft. production facility. We planned, printed, and installed the banner in collaboration with 9th and Thomas and Ultra Violet Arts. The artwork is by Obey Giant, (Otherwise known as Shepard Fairey), and is based on a photo by Ted Soqui Photography taken during a Black Lives Matter protest in 2014. The image is equally emblematic of the current wave of protests for racial justice and police reform that the nation has been experiencing in the wake of the murder of George Floyd by the Minneapolis police. The piece is called “American Rage”.
Women with Blue Heron Mural Install – Grand Format Printing
The famous grand format banner installations continue with a new 8 ½ story mural on the corner of 9th and Thomas in Seattle, WA. Our team spent three days planning, fabricating, and installing this 36ft wide x 112ft tall banner. The artwork labeled ‘Women with Blue Heron’ by Olo Vola symbolizes a fresh start filled with hope, health, and happiness for the city of Seattle, WA. This work of art is inspired by the bright future that lays ahead.
